Timber Officially ‘Greener’ than PVC

A new research by Greenpeace has been recently released detailing how Timber Windows and Doors are better value and better for the environment than their PVC counterparts.

The document explains how:

  • Of the 15 most hazardous chemicals in Europe, 6 are used in the manufacture of PVC-U.
  • Properly sourced Timber is more enviromentally friendly as a sustainable resource than PVC.
  • Developments in Timber Design and Finishing mean that high-performance timber windows need minimal maintenance and have a potentially longer life-span.
  • PVC-U windows do degrade, they are not maintenance-free and they cannot be easily repaired.
  • Local authorities have found that high-performance, double-glazed timber windows are less expensive than PVC over the lifetime of the window.
